Chery Files Patent for Large-Diameter Threaded Through-Hole
Recent disclosures from the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) reveal that Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. ("Chery") filed a patent application in July 2025 titled "A Fastening Assembly Suitable for Large-Diameter Threaded Through-Holes," with publication number CN120798944A. Focusing on fastener technology, this patent proposes an innovative combined solution to address industry pain points in large-diameter threaded through-holes, such as axis deviation and uneven torque distribution during assembly, further enhancing Chery's technical layout in core automotive component R&D.
According to the technical details in the patent abstract, the fastening assembly primarily consists of two core components: a "bolt" and a "special-shaped washer," which work synergistically through structural design. The bolt features a highly targeted design, divided into a shank section and a threaded section from head to tail, with a first guide structure specifically added at the tail. This guide structure directs the initial positioning of the bolt as it begins to screw in, reducing friction and jamming against the inner wall of the through-hole, thus laying the groundwork for precise subsequent assembly.
As the "adjustment core" of the assembly, the special-shaped washer features an even more sophisticated design. It is sleeved over the bolt's shank section and comprises three parts: a flat washer structure, a boss adjustment structure, and a second guide structure, with the end featuring the second guide structure facing the bolt's tail. Specifically, the flat washer structure provides basic load-bearing capacity, preventing the bolt head from directly squeezing and damaging the surface of the assembled part. The boss adjustment structure adjoins the flat washer and extends downward, forming a ring with a tapered second guide structure at its end. The key lies in the adaptability of the boss adjustment structure to the actual size of the threaded through-hole. When there are minor errors in the hole diameter, the annular boss can fill the gap through its own deformation or positional adjustment. Meanwhile, the tapered second guide structure cooperates with the first guide structure at the bolt's tail to form a "dual-guide" system. This ensures precise alignment between the bolt's central axis and the through-hole's central axis, fundamentally solving issues like dispersed tightening torque and substandard axial force caused by axis deviation in traditional fastening methods. Ultimately, it achieves the dual design requirements of "target torque distribution" and "target axial force" during the tightening of the connection pair.
Notably, the R&D background of this patent aligns closely with the practical demands of automotive manufacturing. In automotive production, large-diameter threaded through-holes are widely used in the connection of critical components like frames, chassis, and engine blocks, where assembly precision directly impacts the vehicle's structural strength and driving safety. Traditional fastening solutions often rely on the adaptability of a single washer or bolt, which can lead to issues like "looseness causing part晃动" or "over-tightening causing thread damage" when faced with size deviations in different batches of through-holes. Through its modular design, Chery's newly developed assembly significantly enhances the compatibility and reliability of the fastening system, offering new technical insights for the efficient assembly of large automotive components.
From a corporate perspective, Chery, as a well-established domestic automaker, possesses a solid foundation in R&D investment and technical accumulation. Tianyancha data shows that the company was founded in 1997, is headquartered in Wuhu, Anhui Province, and focuses its main business on automotive manufacturing, with a registered capital of over 5.46 billion RMB, making it a key player in China's auto industry. In terms of industrial layout and compliance, Chery has invested in 61 enterprises, covering critical links in the supply chain such as auto parts production, new energy technology R&D, and auto sales services, forming a relatively complete industrial ecosystem. Regarding business activity, the company has participated in 3,628 bidding projects, reflecting its strong market expansion capabilities both domestically and internationally. In the realm of intellectual property and compliance, Chery holds 2,044 trademarks, 5,000 patents, and 636 administrative licenses. Its 5,000 patents span multiple fields including vehicle design, powertrain systems, intelligent connectivity, and core components. This newly disclosed fastening assembly patent is yet another testament to its continuous deep dive into core technologies and the strengthening of its patent moat.
